Rainy River Sturgeon
Our annual Rainy River sturgeon trip was a success. This year we stayed at Riverbend Resort in a cabin overlooking the beautiful Rainy River. We moved around more this year than past years with all my go to spots not producing for me this year. So, we tried spots that in the past, that weren’t on the top of my list. Few of these spots we caught fish. But for the most part we moved around a lot this year. We stayed away from the big crowds and fished away from most people. A 4

End of the 2018-19 Ice Season
Well, as sad as it is to say, the ice season here in the Black Hills has officially ended as of this past week. The only remaining lake that had accessible ice left, Deerfield, doesn't have it anymore, but I was able to get one more trip on it before this happened. The shorelines were just starting to thaw, but I could still get onto the thicker ice. As with any late ice trip, especially this late, safety was the priority. As it was just me, I had my spud bar, as well as ice

Crappie Craze!!
Here in the metro area in Minnesota, we just celebrated official ice off on Lake Minnetonka on Saturday. The lake was plum full of avid crappie anglers both in their boats and scattered along the shorelines. For most of us, it is a great excuse to get the boat out and stretch out the winter kinks. Of course, it gives us a reason to hunt down the ever so popular spring crappies. Most anglers have a mindset to run to the nearest bank or series of docks in a small bay and start

Florida Adventure
Mike and I went on a short vacation to get away from life for a bit. Being in another state, we had to check out what the fishing life offered. We booked a charter with Captain Jeremy of Fished Slapped charters. Being the fair skinned Norwegian in an area that I was bound to get burnt, I needed to be prepared. I slathered on the spf 50 on my face and neck and pulled on my Blackfish Angler series shirt and went on my way. I have to say; I was a bit leery about being too warm a

Whitewater
Decided to go to whitewater today to chase trout since it was an absolute blast the last time I was down here. Today the water looked like chocolate milk with visibility being less than 6 inches. We switched up out technique today and went with bright colors. We used a Clam blade jig with a larger hook since we were missing many strikes. I threaded a whole night crawler on to the jig. Casting into the current seam and slowly retrieving it enticed the fish to bite. Lots of ver

Fishing River Gold
Heading down to Everts Resort on pool 4 we arrived at 6:15 am and there were only 3 spots for parking down by the river due to high water still. Began fishing up near the dam, slow trolling at .5 mph upstream with a 1/4 oz Road Runner and Ringworms. Four minutes in boom! Nice sauger. The next 30 minutes about 12 boats showed up pitching jigs making it difficult to follow the current seam we were fishing. We picked up and headed back down stream to some slack water. The water

Chasing Trout
It was a beautiful day to chase trout with some amazing scenery. The sun was shining, and the water was crystal clear allowing us to see hundreds of trout. It was amazing, but between clear water and a sunny day made for a tough bite. Every time you would cast the fish would scatter. Tried all kinds of techniques to get them to bite but the best was a small teardrop jig with a whole crawler. Casting up stream and slow rolling it back and stopping it in front of the trout got

New Friends, New Memories--Looking Back
As the hardwater season is ending very quickly here in the Hills, I look back on the season with many fond memories of new friends and memories that were made. This season was one of my busiest yet, with multiple group outings planned or events that took place. The one thing that is always important, besides if fish were caught (which they were on every trip), is the fun that was had by those who I took out. When you're having fun on the water, it doesn't even really matter i

First Open Water Trip
With reports of some lakes ice free as early as 4/5/2019, I decided to check for myself. The lake I decided to fish was open with the main lake temperature at about 46.5 degrees. We checked the go to spot right away nothing in the shallower water. We tried a few more spots on the north side of the lake and still came up empty handed. We decided to head back to the first spot and see if it had warmed up anymore by 1pm. To our surprise it was 50.5 degrees! We made a few casts a
