Pheasant Hunting Safety Reminders

I hope everyone had a safe and successful pheasant opener. Today I would like to talk a little about a few safety reminders when you’re out pheasant hunting.

It is very important for all hunters to go through Firearms Safety and/or a Hunters Education course no matter how old you are.

Treat your firearm as though it were loaded at all times.

Make sure you always point your muzzle in a safe location.

Don't rely on your guns safety.

Be sure the barrel and action are clear of obstructions and that you have the proper ammunition for that firearm.

When you approach a fence, never climb or jump the fence with a loaded gun.

Store your unloaded firearm and ammunition separately and in places inaccessible to children.

Planning your hunt is always important, letting someone know where you’re hunting and when you will be back.

Make sure you and your hunting party always stay in a straight line when moving through cover.

If you don't know where partners are at, never take the shot.

When you're in heavy cover and can't see everyone, try and communicate verbally.

You never know which way a bird will fly so be sure the shooting lane is clear.

When a bird gets up low, just let it go, you never know where the dog is at.

Pheasant hunting is a fun activity, but a very serious level of responsibility comes with taking to the field.
